A £10m centre for film, art and creative technology was opened last week in Liverpool's city centre.
Billed as an arts project for the digital age, FACT brings together two galleries dedicated to new media artwork, a media laboratory and three arthouse cinemas. The six-storey building, designed by Austin-Smith:Lord, has a square shop-window frontage and zinc cladding interspersed with seven LED-illuminated columns. The lottery-funded scheme was built by Mowlem, with Buro Happold as structural and services engineer, Gardiner & Theobald as project manager and Rex Proctor & Partners as quantity surveyor.
