Cost consultant starts work on phase one and plans for £3m phase on restoration scheme

Faithful + Gould is providing cost management for the initial repair work at Southampton’s Tudor House Museum.

Phase one of the restoration of the historic site is due for completion in May 2008.

The consultant is already working with Southampton City Council to secure lottery funding for the next stage of work, which will involve the £3m refurbishment of the Tudor House site and nearby Tudor Merchants Hall.

The transformation of the landmark will include improved disabled access to the building, a cafe and educational facilities.

Andrew Smith of F+G said: “Tudor House is one of the few timber framed buildings located in this quarter of Southampton to survive wartime bomb damage. The first stage of the work will secure the structure and external fabric of the building in readiness for the internal fit out.

Once this repair work is complete, the emphasis will be on highlighting the fascinating history of the site whilst improving the facilities available to the public.”
