Head of Rashid Hospital believes trauma-related work will drop off

A doctor in one of Dubai's main hospitals has said it expects to deal with fewer construction workers in the coming year because of the slowdown in the emirate.

Rashid Hospital is one of the main centres to which injured workers are sent after on-site accidents. But the head of the 35-year-old hospital's trauma department said he would see fewer builders as construction work dropped off in Dubai.

Dr Ruben Peralta said: “We expect to see a reduction in construction-related cases since this is one of the first industries to be affected by the recession.”

The department carries out more than 350 trauma-related cases every month.
