The government’s Housing Forum has confirmed its first tranche of Egan demonstration projects.

The 18 schemes chosen include the Millennium Village in Greenwich, south-east London, and Samuel Lewis Housing Trust’s 227-unit redevelopment of Nightingale Estate in Hackney, east London.

To have schemes picked for demonstration project status, developers must show a commitment to incorporating innovation into all aspects of the construction programme.

The forum has been criticised for failing to attract large speculative housebuilders, but a spokesperson said the next round of projects, due to be announced in September, would include speculative firms.

Other schemes accepted as demonstration projects include: Anchor Trust’s Coolfin Road, a 32-unit development in Newham, east London; Riverside HA’s White Rock Court, a 21-unit scheme in Merseyside; and Collingwood HA’s Avenham Regeneration, a 112-unit scheme in the North-west.
