Search begins for architect to design Denmark capital’s first indoor arena

Funding has been secured for Davis Langdon’s £120m Copenhagen Arena – set to be the first indoor arena in Denmark’s capital.

The City of Copenhagen and Realdania, a philanthropic investment foundation, have agreed to invest DKK650m (£76m) in to the 15,000-seat arena.  The remaining balance will come from commercially backed funding.

Davis Langdon, an Aecom company, is providing consultancy services and leading the procurement process on the project, in a joint venture with sport and entertainment finance specialists IPW.

The client is an international operator, which will lease the facility for 25 years, with AEG and Live Nation now in the final phase of tendering.

With funding secured, the client is now searching for a design team.

James Clark, project lead and head of Davis Langdon’s business in Denmark, said: “Like many other cities, Copenhagen has tried to develop an indoor arena on several occasions, and being part of the team that will finally make this happen is truly exciting for everyone involved.

“With funding having been approved, we are now looking forward to implementing the rest of the strategy to deliver a world class facility for Copenhagen, one which will be run by a major international operator with no future risk of subsidy from the municipality.”

Construction is planned for completion in 2015 with the first events being held at the arena by the end of 2015.
