The Greater London Authority has failed to tackle the question of providing affordable housing for key workers in its spatial development strategy, according to a study by chartered surveyor Drivers Jonas.
The study also concluded that, in the past, no London borough had addressed the question in the same way and many had ignored it.

The report recommended that mayor Ken Livingstone provide clear guidance for boroughs, noting that unless he does, developers will be wary about including affordable housing.

The study said a new London-wide standard could be introduced to counter the problem but suggested that the fairest approach to providing affordable housing would be to tax projects by linking development scale and capital value.
