Islington council approves plans for nightclub with wind turbine, solar panels and waterless air-flush toilets

Plans to create a nightclub billed as the world’s first “eco-disco” have been approved by Islington council.

The existing Surya Centre in Pentonville Road will host the club, which will have a wind turbine, solar panels and waterless air-flush toilets. The dancing motion of clubbers will, its owners say, deliver part of the club’s energy requirements and surplus energy will help power neighbouring properties.

The council has granted the centre a licence to serve alcohol and host music and dancing until the early hours of the morning.

The club will officially be launched today by Club4Climate, a dance brand that bills itself as having strong eco-credentials, and its figurehead Dr Earth.

Dr Earth is also expected to launch a 10-point eco manifesto for all club owners and promoters to adopt if they want to do their bit for the environment
