Temporary access platform for painting work damaged by 80mph winds

The Forth Road Bridge has been closed to traffic after high winds damaged a temporary access platform on the south tower.

A platform was on the bridge for painting work but become insecure after it was battered by 80mph winds.

Bridge body the Forth Estuary Transport Authority said it was waiting for winds to drop below 30mph so it could make the cradle safe.

The bridge, which was closed this morning, has not been damaged but there is a risk of debris falling on the carriageway.

It is expected the bridge will not open for several hours.

The Tay Road Bridge also remains closed due to the high winds.
