Engineerying consultancy is appointed design and building services engineer for fit out of 23-storey building.

Engineering consultancy hurleypalmerflatt has been appointed design and building services engineer for the fit-out of Foster and Partners latest building in the City of London.

The building, named The Tower, is the first major high-rise to be built in the City of London since the Gherkin at 30 St Mary Axe, also designed by Lord Foster. It sits on the site of the Old Lloyd’s 1958 building at 51 Lime Street.

The consultancy will monitor the base build of the 23-storey, 125m tower, whose space amounts to 39,000 sq m, and manage the design and servicing of the floor space. The Tower has been pre-let to insurance firm Willis Group Holdings.

The scheme, which is being developed by Stanhope on behalf of British Land, is expected to be completed by December 2006.
