Hammerson’s Bishops Place scheme in Hackney, east London, was dealt a blow last week after planning officers voted to defer a decision on consent.

Proposals for the £700m mixed-use scheme, designed by Foster + Partners, were submitted to the council last year, but protesters have been fighting to save a 19th-century pub that stands on the site. If built, the 1.3ha scheme to the north of Liverpool Street station would include office towers, public spaces and new homes.
