Troubled contractor Jarvis is being sued by Aedas Architects for non-payment of a series of fees from projects undertaken in 2003.

It is understood that the writ refers to a £20.7m PFI scheme to refurbish and extend four schools for Brighton and Hove council, carried out during 2002 and 2003.

The writ issued by Aedas lists eight invoices for money owed by Jarvis for architectural services, amounting to £175,000, which it claims that it has not received. Aedas is also claiming daily interest on the sum.

Aedas Architects declined to comment on the case.

A further writ for non-payment issued against Jarvis by contractor Laboursite was withdrawn this week after Jarvis paid more than half of the £500,000 demanded.

  • Property developer Artesian Property Partnership has issued a writ for £235,000 against John and Jeffrey Elliott. The two men, who are the main shareholders in Millwood Designer Homes, offered to sell their shareholdings in the company in January 2003.

Market valuations of Millwood’s assets and properties by surveyor Knight Frank revealed lower values than those presented by surveyors on behalf of the Elliotts.

Paul Cunningham, Artesian Property Partnership’s legal director, said the dispute centred on who would pay professional costs if one party pulled out of the deal.

Artesian claims that the Elliotts refused to pay £200,000 plus VAT demanded by the firm after they withdrew.
