Commonwealth stars head the field at 19th annual race in Windsor Great Park.
World-class athletes from Kenya dominated the 19th Building Industry Half-Marathon at Windsor Great Park last Sunday.
The Kenyans, brought into the event to boost its international reputation, joined more than 4000 runners in the 13-mile race.
Hillary Leilei, a contender for Kenya’s national team, won in 1 hour, 7 minutes and 34 seconds. Leilei beat compatriot Julius Kimtai, who competed in the 1998 Commonwealth Games, by 1 second. Last year’s winner, Vincent Garner, took third place.
Kenya’s Emily Chepkogei was the first woman to finish with a time of 1 hour, 20 minutes and 25 seconds – 32 seconds faster than last year’s female winner.
In total, 3300 people finished the race. The times of the top 500 runners will be published next week.
