Two-school project will start on site in April 2010

Kier has scooped a £51m deal to build two schools in Bolton.

The contractor’s education arm has been named preferred bidder by Bolton council for the Essa Academy and Bolton St Catherine’s Academy & Firwood School schemes.

The project will see both education estates completely rebuilt and construction is due to start in April 2010.

Ebrahim Adia, executive member for children’s services at Bolton council, said: “The plans put forward by Kier were really impressive, and will create an excellent learning environment for the academies’ pupils.’’

Neil Pates, principal director of Kier Education, added: “We are delighted to have been announced as preferred bidder and believe our designs will deliver truly transformational learning opportunities for the students at the Essa Academy. We look forward to taking our designs for Essa forward and developing our proposals for St Catherine’s & Firwood.”
