The project will see Laing building Festival Place, a 44 000 m2 new shopping complex and an 8500 m2 leisure area incorporating a multiscreen cinema.
Laing will also refurbish The Walks, an existing shopping centre adjacent to the new development, which will become part of Festival Place. Retailers Debenhams, BHS and Marks & Spencer have already signed up as anchor tenants for Festival Place.
Laing has been working alongside Grosvenor Estates to agree costs on the project’s packages for the last two years. The scheme is scheduled to be completed in autumn 2002.
Architect for the project is Lyons Sleeman Hoare, services engineer is WSP, QS is BDB Surveying Services, structural engineer is Whitby Bird & Partners and highway engineer is Symonds.
The scheme is the sixth awarded to Laing by Grosvenor Estate on a “partnering” basis.
