Mayor's London Plan includes target for all developments to invest in decentralised energy systems

Mayor of London Ken Livingstone wants all developments in London to invest in or link to decentralised energy systems.

The latest version of Livingstone’s London Plan sets out a raft of green planning policies, including a 20% carbon reduction target through onsite renewables.

The plan also says “living” roofs and walls, where vegetation is grown on roofs and vertical structures, should be encouraged by boroughs on all new developments.

Livingstone said: “There is broad and strong support for the London Plan’s new energy policies and developers, architects and engineers are already making proposals that not only meet the current targets but often exceed them.”

The London Plan is an ongoing review of London’s future development, and sets out sustainability advice to the city’s borough councils.
