The Luton headquarters of a BAE Systems subsidiary was opened this week by the Duke of York.

Architect Scott Brownrigg designed the four-storey office building to house 1000 engineering and support staff of the avionics company. To reflect its advanced technical interests, a gunmetal grey pod containing meeting rooms appears to float within the central atrium, and timber benches are suspended on steel rods below the pod. Mowlem Special Projects was design-and-build contractor, Waterman Partnership and Bunyan Meyer & Partners the structural engineers, Foremans and Flack + Kurtz services engineers and Norman Rourke Simpson project manager and cost consultant.
