New law speeds up planning process in order to promote development

Montenegro has speeded up its planning procedures in a bid to attract overseas developers to the country.

The country has reduced the steps needed to gain permission for new build from six to two under recently introduced legislation.

Branimir Gvozdenovic, minister for economic development, said: “Our system is now several times quicker than that of other neighbouring countries.”

He added that the state is pushing ahead with plans to privatise the remainder of its state owned companies, in a move that could further increase the attractiveness of the region to foreign investors.

“Our plan is to complete privatisation fully in the next two years,” said Gvozdenovic.
