Developer Pochin withdraws plan for 7,000 eco-homes after pressure from Cheshire locals

Developer Pochin has withdrawn plans to create a 7,000-home eco-town in Cheshire after an outcry from residents.

Pochin had earmarked the village of Wardle, near Nantwich, as a potential site for development but locals said they did not know about the construction plans.

Stephen O’Brien, Conservative MP for Eddisbury, said the proposals had triggered “deep concern”.

Pochin said that the scheme would eventually have gone to full consultation if ministers went on to shortlist the site. However, the developer has now written to the government to withdraw the planning application.

Local people protested that the area would come under pressure from an extra 17,000 people and 10,000 vehicles if the plans went ahead.

The government wants to create 10 eco-towns across the UK.
