The civil servant who oversaw progress on the troubled quality mark scheme has been appointed the new head of the DTI construction division.
Elizabeth Whatmore will succeed John Hobson as head of the construction directorate after his retirement this week.

She currently works in the construction sponsorship division of the civil service.

A DTI spokesperson said Whatmore would continue to support the Rethinking Construction agenda, and the work of Sir John Egan’s strategic forum.

A Whitehall source said the DTI was keen to demonstrate it was still committed to representing the construction industry. He said Whatmore was chosen on merit, despite being two civil service grades lower than Hobson.
