Dagenham site straddles two authorities meaning scheme still needs sign-off from second council
Part of a scheme by Assael Architecture to build nearly 1,300 homes on an Essex golf course has been given the green light.
The job at Crowlands Heath golf course in Dagenham was recommended for approval by planning officers at Barking and Dagenham council.
As well as 1,298 flats, affordable housing developer Homes for Life will also include commercial space at the site and in their report, planning officers wrote: “The proposed residential and commercial buildings are of a high-quality design and appearance and suitable within the wider character of the area.”

The report added: “The development would deliver several key benefits including: 100% affordable housing comprising social housing and key worker housing; large areas of publicly accessible open space onsite; sporting and recreational facilities for the whole community.”
Labour-controlled Barking and Dagenham council owns the golf course but most of it is in the borough of Havering.
Last week’s green light was for 300 homes on the Dagenham side of the development.
Reform-controlled Havering Council will still need to grant planning permission for the part of the development on its side of the boundary before construction can begin.
Others working on the scheme include planning consultant Be First, which is owned by Baking and Dagenham, project manager Silver, civil engineer Price & Myers and MEP and sustainability consultant Watermans.
