Senior industry figures join ministers and MPs at Building's 1999 Commons terrace reception.
More than 150 guests, including construction minister Nick Raynsford and defence minister John Spellar, gathered in the House of Commons on Monday evening for Building's annual terrace reception.

The three-hour event was sponsored by Bill Olner MP, chairman of the All Party Study Group for Construction – the parliamentary forum that allows industry leaders to discuss construction issues with MPs. Building has sponsored the group since it was founded in 1976.

In a brief address, Raynsford spoke of the importance of construction to the government, and how the reforms initiated in the wake of last year's Egan report are now taking root in the industry. To generous applause, the minister also paid tribute to Sir Michael Latham's contribution to the reform process, five years after the publication of his own review of the industry.
