more than one in 10 000 railway workers die every year and trackside workers are exposed to similar risks as workers in construction, a Health and Safety Executive report has found.
The report recommends a uniform way of identifying dangerous working areas and has set the industry a fatality target of no more than one in 20 000 by 2009.
