Rok has said that it expects the new-build market to remain challenging in the coming year, but that a change in its business mix is mitigating the impact

In a trading update this week, it said the expected cuts in public sector capital spend would exacerbate the sector’s problems in 2010.

On a brighter note, it said the market for response maintenance services had been largely unaffected by the recession and that it continued to gain new customers and take an increased share of existing customers’ spend.

In terms of social housing new-build, where it works on 35 frameworks, Rok said the market had recovered well after a slow start to 2009, helped by the activities of the Homes and Communities Agency.
