Programme of works at West Cumbria nuclear site will run for 15 years

Sellafield is looking to appoint a new strategic partner as part of a shake-up in procurement at the nuclear decommissioning site.

Late last week, the Infrastructure Delivery Partnership fired the starting gun on the race for the job along with three other positions, as it seeks to replace the existing Infrastructure Services Alliance of Morgan Sindall and Arup with a fresh team.

McAlpine have recently been appointed to carry out groundworks on the nuclear site

As well as an overall strategic partner, procurement chiefs are on the hunt for delivery partners covering specific electrical distribution, utilities, and civils, with contracts worth up to a combined £3.4bn.

The programme of projects at the West Cumbria nuclear site will run over 15 years, beginning in June 2025. Firms have until 17 March to bid on the job.

The news comes alongside the appointment of Sir Robert McAlpine as one of Sellafield’s programme and project partners, with the contractor set to provide groundworks and concrete structures for construction projects at the site.
