Firm plans to drop the Rowen name it acquired in 1996

Steel firm Severfield-Rowen is planning to drop the Rowen name and become Severfield PLC.

In a statement to the City, the firm said it was calling a general meeting to “consider the proposal”.

It said the plan followed an “in depth analysis of the company’s brand and brand strength in its various market places” and was “in line with the ongoing operational improvement programme”.

It added: “The company believes the rebrand will create a more easily understood and effective proposition for the company for all its stakeholders and customers.”

The firm said it would release further details of its rebranding plans on 3 June alongside its annual results.

In 1996, Severfield-Reeve, as it was then known, acquired Nottingham based steel firm J N Rowen Ltd just a couple of years after Severfield-Reeve was listed on the London stock exchange.

It then changed its name to Severfield-Rowen in 1999.
