US drug giant said last month it will no longer move into building on Euston Road
Sisk has been told that its £110m contract to carry out fit out work at a life sciences building being built by Mace at King’s Cross in London is no longer going ahead.
Building understands the firm was told last week that its deal at the scheme opposite the railway station was off.
The block had been due to be occupied by Merck but the US drug maker, which is known as MSD in Europe, said the UK was uncompetitive and paying too little for medicines – meaning it will now not move into it as planned.
MSD, which has been contacted for comment, was Sisk’s client and is understood to have broken the bad news itself to Sisk.
The deal had been up in the air ever since Merck said last month it was pulling the plug on the move.
The 10-storey block, called Belgrove House, is being developed by Precis Advisory. It has been designed by architect AHMM and is being built on a former Access self-storage warehouse on the Euston Road.
Mace has been told to carry on and complete its work which is scheduled to wrap up next year.
In a statement last month, Precis Advisory said: “Belgrove House topped out in July 2025 and remains on track for completion of the shell and core in spring 2026, providing world-class facilities that reflect the ambition for this globally significant location.”
Precis has previously said laboratories make up around 40% of the building’s total floorspace with associated office, research and ‘write-up’ space at levels four to nine.
No formal announcement about a replacement tenant or what the building could be used for instead has been made.
