Transport secretary John Spellar is to be the keynote speaker at Blair's Billions – the one-day conference sponsored by Building that will analyse the £45bn public sector spending boom taking place next month.
Spellar, who gave his first interview to the magazine this month, will discuss the challenges for construction in improving the road and rail network.

The conference will be held in Westminster, in central London, on 25 September.

Other speakers include: Deryk Eke, construction director at the Office of Government Commerce; Peter Wearmouth, acting chief executive of NHS Estates; David Crewe, chairman of the Housing Forum; Ken Beeton, divisional manager at Schools Capital and Buildings in the DFES; John Aspinall, head of corporate planning at the Highways Agency; and the industry's top economist Jacquie Cannon.
