Amicus union members walked off the Terminal 5 site today after failing to secure a £1/hour bonus from employers.
Steelworkers on the Heathrow Terminal 5 site have gone on strike over pay demands.
The steelworkers, members of the Amicus union, walked off the site this morning after failing to secure a £1/hour bonus from employers. The steelworkers wanted the deal to match a bonus granted to electricians on the project, which they saw as an unofficial travelling allowance.
A spokesperson from BAA said that the organisation had believed talks between employers and unions yesterday had produced a solution, but claimed that this was rejected by site workers this morning. The spokesperson said: “We believed an agreement had been reached with Amicus based on a binding solution to resolve this dispute, and the strike planned for today was called off. This morning Amicus conveyed this position to their members on site. It was however rejected by the steelworkers who consequently left the site and are not working today.”
BAA claimed normal working would resume tomorrow, and that it would continue to try to resolve the dispute.
