Developer Taylor Woodrow has been appointed by English Partnerships as the preferred developer for part of the former Park Prewett hospital site in Basingstoke, Hampshire.

The site is the first to be sold from EP’s portfolio of 96 NHS properties, which were transferred from the Department of Health in April this year.

The 34 ha site will be developed under the Bryant Homes branch of Taylor Woodrow and will include 884 new homes. The plot has also been earmarked as a site for John Prescott’s £60,000 house challenge, which will add a further 130 homes.

The remaining 14 ha of the site does not have planning consent but has been earmarked for residential use.

The DoH transferred an initial tranche of 67 sites in April, with the remaining due to come across in the next two years. EP has estimated that 14,000 houses will be built on the newly-acquired land.
