Renzo Piano’s skyscraper takes the Canary Wharf Tower’s title as London’s tallest building

The Shard at London Bridge became the tallest building in the UK on Tuesday.

Renzo Piano’s skyscraper has overtaken César Pelli’s 770ft Canary Wharf Tower, which had held the title since its completion in 1991. When finished, the 87-storey, 1,017ft Shard, which is being built by Mace, will overtake Frankfurt’s 850ft Commerzbank Tower by Norman Foster to become the tallest building in the EU.
