Gavin Slark to start by beginning of next year
Travis Perkins has poached Gavin Slark from rival SIG to be its new chief executive.
Slark will take up his new role at the start of 2026 and will continue as SIG’s CEO for a transitionary period.
He has been chief executive of SIG since 2023 and before that was in charge of FTSE 250 building materials firm Grafton Group between 2011 and the end of 2022. He was also chief executive of building materials distributor BSS before it was bought by Travis Perkins in 2010 for £558m.
Slark has been appointed after previous incumbent Pete Redfern stepped down in March after just six months in the role because of ill-health.
Travis Perkins chairman Geoff Drabble said: “Gavin brings with him unrivalled experience of the sector in addition to a long pedigree as a CEO of significant public companies. Gavin is well placed to continue the work we have started to refocus and change the way we operate.”
In its last set of results, Travis Perkins said operating profit plunged 99% to £2m with the firm’s pre-tax profit sinking to a £77m loss from a £38m profit last time. Revenue was down 5% to £4.6bn.
In a separate statement SIG chairman Andrew Allner said: “[Slark] has steered the Group well through a difficult period in the European construction industry. He will leave in place strong and experienced leaders in each of our businesses.”
It said it had begun the process for a successor at the business which last year posted an increased pre-tax loss of £45m on turnover down 5% to £2.6bn.
