Construction companies are among an 80-strong delegation that has travelled to India to try to increase British investment in the country.

Among them are Arup, Balfour Beatty, Laing O’Rourke, Mott MacDonald and Scott Wilson.

Alistair Darling, the trade and industry secretary, accompanied the delegation and met his Indian counterpart Kamal Nath. It is thought he spoke about improving trading conditions for foreign investment.

Foreign companies are currently prevented from 100% ownership of Indian companies.
