UK house prices see biggest rise since 2007

March stastics show pandemic boom has increased cost of a house by more than 10%

House prices rose by 1.8% in March according to the first official data for the month, putting prices up by more than 10% year on year for the first time since the 2008 global financial crisis.

The Office of National Statistics (ONS) figures, based on Land Registry data, show the average price of a home rose to £256,000 in the UK, with the rises highest across the north of England.
