Contractor with focus on rail, highways and water sectors improves margin
VolkerWessels UK has reported a 47% increase in pre-tax profit.

The multidisciplinary contractor, in its audited accounts for the year to 31 December, reported pre-tax profit of £70.5m, up from the £48.1m reported the previous year. Its pre-tax margin rose from 3.2% to 4.7%.
The increase in profit and margin came despite turnover dipping slightly by 0.3% to £1.49bn.
The firm said: “Our focus as a business remains on sustainable growth in earnings and exceeding the expectations of our clients, rather than significantly increasing revenues. In this context the result for the year is considered strong and has achieved expectations.”
The VolkerWessels UK group consists of five business units operating across the UK infrastructure market. Its core areas include rail infrastructure, highways and airports, construction of industrial and commercial buildings and marine, energy, water and environmental infrastructure
