Assael’s designs approved for Carlton scheme on derelict Alfa Laval site

Hounslow council has approved a £100m scheme to regenerate a derelict 1.85ha site in Brentford, which has lain empty for 20 years.

Designs by Assael Architecture for a mixed-use scheme on the former Alfa Laval site in the heart of Brentford have received planning permission.

The development by Carlton Properties in the London borough will include private and affordable housing as well as two hotels, one office building and a small amount of community use.

The site is adjacent to the Great West Quarter development along the M4/A4, and the design of the scheme is said to take inspiration from some of the Art Deco style buildings along the Golden Mile.

The residential element of the scheme will total 206 units, of which 30% will be affordable housing, with a mix of one, two and three-bed apartments, three-bed duplex apartments and four-bed houses.

The structure of the site’s existing Alpha tower will be retained, with new cladding, to reflect the industrial use of the past.

The scheme’s sustainability strategy includes a community combined heat and power (CHP) network, photovoltaic panels, heat pumps and passive ventilation.
