Galliford Try has been appointed preferred bidder for the £46m Conservatoire arts complex in central Birmingham.

Designed by architects Fielden Clegg Bradley Studios for Birmingham City University, the new building will house teaching facilities as well as a 500-seat auditorium and tow additional performance spaces.

The current Conservatoire will move from its existing home to the Eastside area of the city centre, adjacent to the university’s Parkside building.

The new facility will be situated alongside Millennium Point and the university’s city centre campus in Birmingham’s learning quarter.

Greg Fitzgerald, Galliford Try’s executive chairman, commented: “We are delighted to be involved in such a high-profile and significant project for both Birmingham and the surrounding area.

“We look forward to working with Birmingham City University and the design team to produce a world-class musical facility for both the students and the wider community.”

High-profile graduates of Birmingham Conservatoire include the MOBO award-winning singer/songwriter Laura Mvula and X Factor finalist Rhydian Roberts.
