Although expert witnesses speak for just one side, their first loyalty must be to the truth – otherwise they risk prosecution

I will start this story with a spoiler: the expert witness in the case was committed to prison for six months, while his instructing solicitor got 15 months. They were both found guilty of concocting an expert’s report that was so wrongful it amounted to contempt of court; it was an interference with the administration of justice. And this wasn’t a whopper of a case but a tiddler.
