It was interesting to see that the red tape featured on your cover last week (7 January, page 32) seems to take the form of the webbing often used to save people from themselves. Isn’t that what most regulation is about?

In the same vein, I hope that this is in time to save some of your readers from the apoplexy they may suffer in the face of the “13 major regulatory changes” you tell us are coming in the new year. The dates shown in your article indicate that at least five of those pieces of legislation are not due until after 2005, but the falls from height regulations, which are not mentioned, are due.

I know the media has difficulty divesting itself of hyperbole and exaggeration but, believe me, the truth really is stranger than any fiction.
