But the feature failed to highlight how quality compost can be used to restore and improve land on brownfield sites offers, thereby reducing the amount of waste sent to landfill. By avoiding the need to remove existing mineral materials, or poor quality or contaminated soils from a site, signatories to the Halving Waste to Landfill agreement, launched recently by Wrap (Waste & Resources Action Programme), can take a significant step towards the 50% reduction in waste to landfill being targeted between 2008 and 2012.
