A sweeping Kalzip aluminium roof has been used on the new Leigh Technology Academy college in Dartford, Kent

Designed by Building Design Partnership, the development includes four college buildings and a sports hall located under a large sweeping Kalzip roof which arcs down to ground level from a height of 12m.

The roof has been installed by Lakesmere, which used its 3D modelling software to help identify the necessary plant requirements and possible site restrictions before going on-site.

The installation of the purlin-free roof included the use of large span decks up to 9m. As these were too big to be manhandled or lifted into position with a forklift truck, Lakesmere designed special brackets so that the decks could be craned into position.
