Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas and Swiss firm Herzog de Meuron have designed this hotel and park at Astor Place in New York.
The 15,000 m2, monolithic 20-storey main hotel building has a metal skin punched through by large windows. The whole scheme contains an open gathering space separated from the street by crystal-like faceted glass, a multilevel public space, a six-storey satellite building and an outdoor plaza with a cafe and landscaped private park. A project team has yet to be named.
