New arrival joins 22 Bishopsgate builder to work on tall tower schemes

Mace’s project director on its scheme at Battersea Power Station has left to join Multiplex.

It is understood Jonathan Foster has joined the 22 Bishopsgate builder as a project director and will be in charge of leading its bid for a major tower project – thought to be Eric Parry’s 1 Undershaft scheme.

Last autumn, Building revealed that Stanhope had won the race to be development manager on the project to build the City’s tallest tower.

The firm, which is coming to the end of its work on Wilkinson Eyre’s 50-storey scheme at 8 Bishopsgate, beat pitches from 22 Bishopsgate developer Lipton Rogers and CO-RE, the firm behind the redevelopment of 120 Fleet Street.

The 1 Undershaft scheme has planning but has been undergoing a significant redesign over the past 15 months to bring it up to date with modern building methods and issues such as carbon emissions. Among those working on the job are engineer WSP and cost consultant Aecom.

The current proposal was granted planning in November 2016 but Building understands the scale of the redesign means the plans will have to be resubmitted again for full planning, likely to be later this year.

Last summer, senior figures from Cheesegrater builder Laing O’Rourke, Multiplex and Mace met for soundings with top bosses from Singapore developer and client Perennial Holdings about building the tower which will stand at just over 300m.
