BDP-designed £22m school for children aged three-years old to 16 opens in Bradford

Architect BDP’s Appleton Academy in Bradford has opened for the new school year.

The £22m academy, built by contractor FMP, replaces two existing schools with one new all through 3-16 academy for 1,300 pupils.

The design of the academy aims to create a learning continuum from nursery to sixth form, with learning phases interlinked seamlessly through a single circular building around a landscaped garden.

Learners grow clockwise around the circle with the building stepping up in scale as they progress.

The BDP design team utilised BIM throughout the entire design process.
