Foster and Partners is about to complete a hat trick at the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts at the University of East Anglia, Norwich, by creating a basement that links its two earlier award-winning buildings. Kier Eastern will start construction next week to open out a 35 m public gallery in the basement between the original Sainsbury Centre of 1978 and the 1991 underground Crescent Wing. In addition some 5400 m2 of existing Venetian blinds along all four sides and the roof will be replaced with automatic solar-controlled blinds. The project team includes structural engineer FKMAH, services engineer Buro Happold and QS Davis Langdon.
