Firm to replace 1960s scheme with 2,000-bed complex in Newcastle

Bowmer & Kirkland has signed up for a huge student accommodation scheme in Newcastle worth £274m.

The job for Unite Students and Newcastle University will see a 1960s built complex at Castle Leazes replaced with a series of two to nine-storey blocks providing homes for just over 2,000 students.

The project is split into two phases, with the first delivering 788 beds in time for occupancy at the start of the 2028/29 academic year, while the remaining rooms will be completed in phase two and ready for the 2029/30 student intake.
