Crest Nicholson is selected by the South East England Development Agency for Woolston Riverside site.

Developer Crest Nicholson has been selected as preferred development partner for a £250m regeneration project in Southampton.

Crest Nicholson has been selected by the South East England Development Agency as preferred lead development partner for the 12.5 hectare Woolston Riverside site in Southampton. Crest was selected from an initial tender list of 22 and a shortlist of five potential development partners.

The developer will deliver the residential elements of the scheme, together with retail, leisure and community facilities. The project, which will be built on a former shipyard site around a central piazza with waterfront access, will include approximately 1,500 homes.

Crest Nicholson chief executive Stephen Stone said: "In partnership with SEEDA and Southampton City Council we will work to create a vibrant and thriving new community at Woolston Riverside, a site which, due to its previous use as a shipyard, has been inaccessible to the public for over a century."

Preparation works on the former shipyard site are expected to commence in spring 2007, with the overall programme expected to take eight years.
