Crossrail London Rail Links reveals cost if rail route extended to Reading

A possible extension of Crossrail to Reading will cost an extra £372m.

In response to a written question by the House of Lords, Cross London Rail Links revealed that extension work on overhead line equipment, bridgeworks and track works will cost £275m.

Additional work on signalling and rolling stock will increase the bill by a further £97m.

At the beginning of the month, rail minister Tom Harris announced that a Crossrail extension to Reading was possible. The land needed for the route was being safeguarded in case there should be a case for business, Harris said.
