The man behind the growth of Morrison Construction in the 1990s buys Beckenham-based refurbishment firm for an undisclosed sum.

Gordon Morrison, who with his brother helped build up his father's construction business, Morrison Construction in the 1990s, has come back to the sector after buying Beckenham-based social housing refurbishment firm Richardson for an undisclosed sum.

Morrison has acquired the £21m turnover Richardson and said he wants the firm to build on over 20 years of experience in the social housing market and become a centre of excellence.

“I want to see Richardson move to the cutting edge of new thinking,” he said. “This firm has the potential to grow in this market, which is currently valued at around £10bn a year.”

During the 1990s Morrison developed support services for his father’s company before it was sold to utility group AWG, formerly Anglian Water, in 2000 for £263m.
