Planning approval gained for architect's redevelopment of SEEVIC College in Benfleet

Architect Nightingale Associates has won planning approval for the £79m redevelopment for SEEVIC College in Benfleet, Essex.

The scheme involves creating 22,00m2 of new and refurbished facilities for one of the UK's largest sixth-form colleges.

Hemendra Kothari, a director at Nightingale's Dartford studio, said: “The scheme has been designed to meet the needs of the college's changing and diverse curriculum and to provide staff and students with up-to-date, modern facilities.

“It was also designed to provide an attractive yet environmentally sustainable structure within which to deliver a high quality learning environment for students. On top of this, the building is easy to maintain and cost-effective to run.”

The design also includes a glazed “street” that will provide the college with an entrance and a prominent presence on the A13 while also linking together all the teaching blocks and the central learning resources centre.
