£40m overhaul designed by MICA and carried out by Vinci

Actor Dame Judi Dench opened the revamped Fairfield Halls concert and theatre complex in Croydon this week following a £40m makeover completed by Vinci.

The south London venue opened in the 1960s and has seen dozens of big names play there include the Beatles, David Bowie and comedy duo Morecambe and Wise.

The revamp, drawn up by architect MICA, has seen new performance spaces and facilities added while dozens of original fixtures and fittings have been spruced up.

Others to work on the scheme for developer Brick by Brick include QS and project manager Gleeds, structural engineer AKS Ward and M&E engineer Max Fordham.
